Seconds vs. Milliseconds
One of the most common timestamp bugs: Java’s System.currentTimeMillis() returns milliseconds, while Unix date +%s returns seconds. That’s a factor of 1000 difference. The converter lets you toggle between both units so you always get the right answer. If you paste a 13-digit number and nothing makes sense, switch to milliseconds mode.

What is a Unix timestamp? It’s the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC (known as the Unix epoch). It’s a universal way to represent a point in time as a single number, avoiding timezone and format ambiguity.
Why do some timestamps have 10 digits and others have 13? 10-digit timestamps are in seconds (standard Unix time). 13-digit timestamps are in milliseconds (common in Java, JavaScript, and many APIs). Use the seconds/milliseconds toggle to handle both.
Does the converter account for my local timezone? Yes. The “Local” format in the output uses your browser’s timezone. The ISO 8601 output includes the timezone offset. The World Clock shows times in each city’s local timezone.
Can I convert dates before 1970? Yes. Dates before the Unix epoch are represented as negative timestamps. For example, January 1, 1960 is approximately -315619200 in Unix time.
Is the world clock accurate? It uses your device’s system clock and the Intl API for timezone calculations, so it’s as accurate as your computer’s time setting. For mission-critical timing, always verify against an NTP server.
